Google Latitude on the Nokia N95

gGPS + Google Maps with Latitude installed = A pretty awesome application.

Google Latitude installs pretty quick on the N95, just gotta throw your phone number down on this page: http://www.google.com/latitude/

Like magic, a link gets sent to your SMS inbox. A few clicks & you’re either installing Google Maps (with Latitude) or upgrading your Google Maps install to include Latitude. Easy.

This process works on most other phones, except the iPhone. iPhone and iPod touch support is “coming soon”.

Once you have the app, it’s simple to use.

  1. Open Google Maps
  2. Import your contacts (it emails them and says “I want to stalk you!” – more or less)
  3. Then you’re off.

You can also add Latitude to your iGoogle page.

As of right now, if Google tossed in some photo sharing, geotracking, note posting, twitter sharing capability, I’d just go ahead and delete my Brightkite account. Without GPS support or an S60 application for Nokia phone folks, Brightkite is a pain in the ass to use via SMS, and even worse through their cumbersome mobile interface.

Latitude is updating my location this second… and I’m not even doing anything, aside from charging my phone.

Pretty excellent.
