Test shots from tonight's Photography Walk

Took a walk tonight, took some photos tonight. I haven’t done night photography… true night photography, in about a year and some change. It became too crafty, in that I could just “do it”; and missed the sitting, waiting, examining, and thinking of photography. Tonight was a test of colors. I wanted to see how manipulating the camera’s white balance would work with specific light sources. After all, this is a different camera than the last time I ventured out, and a completely different lens.

There were a couple of instances where I reverted back to my clunky 75mm-300mm for grins, and it pretty much felt just as I left it. The new f2.8 18mm-55mm is intense to say the least. I think it’ll be better suited for use during the day, it really just captures too much light to make night time shots look the way I like’m to… ya know, surreal.

Here’s the results of tonight’s test, and two of the phone booth I mentioned in this video during the outing: http://qik.ly/wQKQ

@jboydsandiego I was the only person on the street for hours, more or less, the water was equally person-less.

I was just there a few hours before you! Great sunset last evening. Good to see you get back into some night photography - we should head out sometime.
